Montreal, November 28, 2024 – Printemps numérique (Digital Spring) is proud to announce that Mr. Mehdi Benboubakeur, General Manager and co-founder of the organization, has received the rank of Officer of the Order of the Crown, a distinction awarded on the proposal of the Belgian federal government and conferred by royal decree on May 25, 2024. This prestigious recognition was presented at an official ceremony held on November 27, 2024 at the Belgian residence in Montreal.

This recognition, one of the most prestigious awarded by Belgium, honors Mr. Benboubakeur’s commitment to an inclusive and responsible digital world, as well as his remarkable contributions to strengthening relations between Belgium and Quebec, particularly in the digital field.

“The collaboration with Belgium is based on shared values of solidarity, innovation and openness, which embody the very essence of Printemps numérique. This distinction goes beyond a personal honor, it celebrates a lasting friendship and a shared vision between Belgium and Quebec: that of a responsible, inclusive digital world at the service of the common good” declared Mr. Benboubakeur.

“This title is a well-deserved recognition of Mr. Benboubakeur’s exceptional career, and of his role in bringing together our two digital, academic and entrepreneurial cultures,” emphasized Geert Vansintjan, Consul General of Belgium in Montreal.

The initiatives undertaken by Printemps Numérique since its inception have helped strengthen ties between Belgium and Quebec. These initiatives have provided a platform for significant spin-offs, such as the creation of FARI, a Belgian institute dedicated to artificial intelligence for the common good; the implementation of large-scale projects such as the Printemps numérique de Bruxelles; and the development of strategic partnerships between Belgian and Quebec companies and organizations, such as the collaboration between TIMi, a Belgian company pioneering eco-responsible practices, and the Conseil des industries durables du Québec. These examples demonstrate the tangible impact and scope of these exchanges, which promote a shared vision of an inclusive, responsible and innovative digital world.
