Montreal, July 30, 2019 — Montreal Digital Spring (Printemps numérique) is proud to announce that it will be hosting ISEA2020 (International Symposium of Electronic Arts) as part of MTL connect: Digital Week, from May 19 to 24, 2020. Today, when more and more “emotionless” decisions are determined by algorithms and data, what is the value of human instinct and emotion? This is the guiding theme of the symposium: WHY SENTIENCE?
MTL connect 2nd edition will feature five pavilions including ISEA2020 as the Creativity Pavilion, among FinTech Pavilion, AI, IoT & 4.0 Pavilion, City of the Future Pavilion, and Cybersecurity & Digital Identity Pavilion. This international event aims to explore the main question guiding the future of digital transformation, focusing on its cultural, economic, social and environmental impact on society.
Montreal was awarded the hosting of the next ISEA at ISEA2019 held in Gwangju, South Korea in June 2019. The handover of the symbol of this year theme ‘Lux Aeterna’ took place during the closing ceremony, where Ms Soh Yeong Roh, Director of Art Centre Nabi in Seoul, hand over the eternal light to next year host Mr. Mehdi Benboubakeur, Executive Director of Montreal Digital Spring.
“ISEA2020 will be innovative and visionary”, said Mehdi Benboubakeur. “ISEA returns to Montreal after 25 years. Back in 1995 it introduced Montreal as a Digital Arts Centre and gave a spotlight to emerging local talent. Montreal will benefit this time round from ISEA2020, and will build a strong momentum for the future.”
Founded in the Netherlands in 1990, ISEA International (formerly Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts) is an international non-profit organization fostering interdisciplinary academic discourse and exchange among culturally diverse organizations and individuals working with art, science and technology.
