{"id":13455,"date":"2025-05-21T14:22:27","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T18:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.printempsnumerique.ca\/?p=13455"},"modified":"2025-05-26T16:27:19","modified_gmt":"2025-05-26T20:27:19","slug":"a-fertile-spring-for-digital-literacy-in-quebec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.printempsnumerique.ca\/en\/news\/article\/a-fertile-spring-for-digital-literacy-in-quebec\/","title":{"rendered":"A fertile spring for digital literacy in Quebec"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A look back at a day full of ideas at Shawinigan&#8217;s DigiHub<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On May 13, the <\/span><b>Quebec digital literacy roundtable<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> gathered in the inspiring ecosystem of the <\/span><b>DigiHub in Shawinigan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a <\/span><b>spring meeting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> marked by collaboration, strengthened cross-sector ties, and a flourishing of promising ideas for Quebec\u2019s youth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This 19th meeting brought together <\/span><b>dedicated stakeholders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the public and private sectors, education, and the community sphere, all united by a common goal:<\/span><b> to promote equal opportunities and foster the emergence of an inclusive digital literacy for all young people in Qu\u00e9bec<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">An inspiring setting for rich exchanges<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The day began with a <\/span><b>guided tour of the DigiHub&#8217;s entrepreneurial ecosystem<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, followed by a <\/span><b>networking lunch themed &#8220;Pollinator flowers&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a beautiful metaphor highlighting the buzz of ideas and the richness of human connections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our warmest thanks to <\/span><b>Naoufel Cheraiti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (coordinator of the NovaScience Program) and <\/span><b>Gabriel Dufour<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (senior advisor in scientific and innovation culture at the MEIE), who joined the meeting remotely <\/span><b>to present the objectives, criteria, and opportunities of the NovaScience program<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Their support provided valuable insights and equipped the roundtable members in their reflection on future collective projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Let your ideas blossom! A lively co-creation activity<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The afternoon continued with a co-creation activity titled \u201cLet your ideas bloom!\u201d, where participants, divided into collaborative groups, brainstormed joint projects centered on digital literacy. This creative storm brought to light several priorities shared across the represented sectors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The need to clearly <\/span><b>define what digital literacy is<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and to<\/span><b> formally integrate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it into the school curriculum from primary school onwards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of <\/span><b>supporting those who support young people in their digital development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, be they teachers, parents, community workers or educators.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The urgent need to <\/span><b>stimulate the discovery of STEM\/STEAM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts) subjects <\/span><b>among young girls<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by strengthening the role of teachers as facilitators of opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>challenge of better supervising the use of digital technologies in family environments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with <\/span><b>concrete resources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like Alloprof and the involvement of various stakeholders<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>value of critical digital skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such as <\/span><b>interpersonal skills, know-how and the power to act<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the<\/span><b> importance of developing a learner&#8217;s posture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the face of an ever-changing technological world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The desire to <\/span><b>encourage concerted action between all sectors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>develop structuring projects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rooted in the realities of young people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>strong appeal to the shared responsibility of governments and businesses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>reduce the inequalities created by the digital transition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, notably through equitable access to equipment and services, including in remote areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This spring gathering reaffirmed how the roundtable serves as fertile ground for the emergence of concrete, ethical, and innovative digital literacy projects.
