Montreal, February 9, 2024 –\u00a0<\/strong>From\u00a0February 17 to 24<\/strong>, young people and the general public are invited to discover the possibilities of digital technology at a\u00a0Digital Caf\u00e9\u00a0<\/strong>(Caf\u00e9 num\u00e9rique) in the heart of Montreal’s\u00a0Complexe Desjardins<\/strong>. On the program: immersive experiences in a 360\u02da dome, humanoid robot, discovery of future fields in digital creation, etc. Educational institutions are also invited to\u00a0book a visit<\/a>\u00a0including an inspiring activity trail in which young people will be made aware of the issues surrounding AI, digital sobriety and algorithms.<\/p>\n

Finding:\u00a0<\/strong>According to the\u00a0research study<\/a>\u00a0\u201cCulture et in\u00e9galit\u00e9s num\u00e9riques : usages num\u00e9riques des jeunes au Qu\u00e9bec\u201d (published by Printemps num\u00e9rique in 2020), we note that the gendered digital divide is a worrying sociological phenomenon. This raises the question of equal opportunity in an increasingly digital society. It has been shown that certain populations often experience disparities due to a variety of factors, including gender, distance from major urban centers, socio-economic background, etc.<\/p>\n

That’s why\u00a0Montreal Digital Spring (Printemps num\u00e9rique)<\/a>, organizer of the\u00a0Digital caf\u00e9<\/strong>, wants to make this event an inclusive opportunity to help reduce the digital divide. Indeed, the program will offer a\u00a0special day dedicated to Indigenous people<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Friday, February 23<\/strong>, with the immersive “Algorithmic Territory” workshop to be presented in the 360\u02da dome. Indigenous Youth Ambassadors will be on hand to share their vision of a desirable digital future for communities.<\/p>\n

“In the ‘Algorithmic Territory’ workshop, youngsters will have the opportunity to explore different generative tools to create their own ‘Nitassinan’ from scratch. It’s a playful experience that immerses them in digital creation assisted by artificial intelligence”,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>says St\u00e9phane Nepton, educational designer, trainer and speaker at\u00a0Grandir Sans Fronti\u00e8res<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I salute the Caf\u00e9 num\u00e9rique’s initiative in offering these spaces for expression, which will ensure the full development of young Indigenous highlight their involvement in their communities and in Quebec society,”\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>says Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Culture and Communications, Minister responsible for Youth and Minister responsible for the Outaouais region.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0Digital Caf\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0Complexe Desjardins<\/strong>, in partnership with\u00a0SYNTH\u00c8SE<\/a>,\u00a0Comp\u00e9tence culture<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Grandir Sans Fronti\u00e8res<\/a>, is part of the\u00a0Digital Youth Month program<\/a>\u00a0(February 1 to March 8), whose theme is Ensemble pour un num\u00e9rique \u00e9quitable. Numerous activities are offered to young\u00a0people under 35<\/strong>\u00a0to discover Quebec initiatives and learn about the possibilities of digital technology (shows, video games, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, etc.).<\/p>\n
