PIERRE LÉVY will open the conference ball at MTL connect 2023
Montreal, June 20, 2023 — The 5th anniversary edition of MTL connect: Montreal Digital Week will take place from October 10 to 13, 2023, at the NAD School (Montreal). This year’s main theme, COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE, will focus on understanding the digital revolution and how to take advantage of it. Who better than Pierre Lévy, author of “L’intelligence collective: Pour une anthropologie du cyberespace“, to give the first conference?
COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE is the ability of a group to solve complex problems through the interactions between its individuals and the resulting synergies. Each individual possesses a share of the knowledge, the know-how and the solution. With digital technology, billions of individuals are interconnected at every moment, like billions of synapses of the same entity. The 2022 edition of MTL connect, with the main theme ECO(Systems) of Hope, invited us to imagine a desirable digital world for tomorrow. For this hope to be realized, it must necessarily be accompanied by concrete and, above all, collective actions.
The main theme, COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE, will contribute to the transfer of expertise between different ecosystems, to the cross-fertilization of knowledge and to the international influence of the various forms of digital innovation in the Montreal metropolis.
Pierre Lévy is a philosopher who has dedicated his career to studying the cultural and cognitive implications of digital technologies, and to promoting their best social uses. He is particularly renowned for his theorization of human collective intelligence, and has created the Information Economy Metalanguage (IEML), a data modeling tool with the expressive power of natural language and the regularity of algebra.

Pierre has been honoured with numerous awards and academic distinctions. A research associate at the Université de Montréal and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, he has written a dozen books that are studied in numerous universities around the world.
Pierre will present the conference on the main theme Collective Intelligence on October 10 at 10am, marking the 30th anniversary of his book. The aim of the conference will be to explore how the emergence of new technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence, has greatly expanded the possibilities for collective intelligence within communities.
Don’t miss this opportunity to take part in an in-depth reflection on how to navigate this new environment by taking advantage of the benefits offered by artificial intelligence, while minimizing the potential risks.
